I suspect there are plenty of people want to see the movie but won't, primarily because they wouldn't want to be seen at a "gay" movie.

Just think of the millions every year who resolve to remain heterosexual. You won't see them at BBM

I follow Trav and Reason's breakdown of profits, but do remember that, indie film or not, this is the same Hollwood where a movie can gross $350M and they'll still complain that they lost money on it.

Is that gross or net revenues?

I doubt that 20 mil to make it includes distribution, advertising and theater costs.

I'm assuming gross.

Point is, it wasn't an expensive movie to make, so it doesn't need as much revenue to break even.

As of last week, BBM had been released in fewer than 300 theaters. So to reach the top ten with limited distribution, that's not too shabby.

I haven't seen anything like that. The War on Christmas (not Easter), now the War on Conservatives who don't want to see Brokeback Mountain. It's amusing how hard conservatives strain to be seen as victims.
